BURLINGTON, Vt. Some Vermont gasoline retailers can’t keep up with the rising prices.

Warren Miller of the Elmore store says he didn’t know until earlier this week his pumps can’t be set above two dollars and 99 cents a gallon. A replacement mechanism for his pumps won’t be available for some time.
He closed his pumps.
State officials say about 60 of the six-thousand gas pumps in Vermont have the older mechanism. So they’ve decided to allow retailers with the older pumps to calculate sales prices by hand.
